Architectural Drafter
Windsor, CA
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Architectural Drafter to lead the development of precise, code-compliant construction documents across a range of projects. This role demands advanced drafting skills, strong knowledge of building codes and standards, and the ability to coordinate effectively with architects, engineers, and consultants. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the owners and project team to translate design concepts into accurate CAD drawings, ensuring design intent is preserved while balancing cost, compliance, and constructibility.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design Leadership
Lead development of conceptual design, schematic design, and construction documentation for multiple projects simultaneously.
Establish and maintain company design standards, and drawing templates.
Provide early-stage design input for entitlements, feasibility studies, and pro forma development.
Consultant & Stakeholder Management
Help select and manage outside architects, engineers, and design consultants.
Lead design coordination meetings, resolve design conflicts, and drive decision-making across disciplines.
Review consultant deliverables for quality, accuracy, and compliance with company goals.
Technical Expertise
Ensure all documents meet applicable codes, ADA standards, T24/Cal Green, and jurisdictional requirements.
Evaluate constructability, building assemblies, value-engineer design solutions, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Review and approve shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals from a design perspective.
Permitting & Entitlements
Help produce the document deliverables required for entitlement packages and plan check submittals.
Prepare plan check responses and assist in coordinating with jurisdictions to facilitate timely approvals.
Act as liaison with city officials, building departments, and permitting agencies to facilitate timely approvals.
Construction Phase Support
Provide design oversight during construction, responding to field conditions and owner-requested changes.
Ensure as-builts and record drawings are captured accurately for operations and future projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
6+ years of experience in architectural design, documentation, and project coordination (developer/builder experience a plus).
Deep knowledge of building codes, accessibility standards, and energy compliance (T24).
Proven ability to manage consultants, negotiate design solutions, and lead cross-functional teams.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Procore, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Microsoft Project, SmartSheets, Revit, SketchUp, Enscape, or Lumion a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present clearly to executives, city officials, and stakeholders.
